Previous studies concerning the health risks associated with borderline personality disorder (BPD) have comprised relatively small samples and have not always factored in the additional risks associated with psychiatric comorbidities. These investigators examined these risks in wave 2 of the National Epidemiological Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC), a cross-sectional study of 34,653 nationally representative individuals.
Prevalence of lifetime BPD was 5.9%.
