Cross-sectional studies have linked pathological gambling disorder and less-severe problem gambling to a host of DSM-IV Axis I disorders. In a prospective, longitudinal study, investigators used nationally representative data on 33,231 adults from the National Epidemiological Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC) to examine associations between disordered gambling (pathological or problem gambling) and new incidence of Axis I psychiatric disorders 3 years later.
