Up to 60% of adult patients with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are reported to have deficient emotional self-regulation (DESR), which concerns such areas as self-regulation of physiological arousal caused by emotions, behavioral response to emotions (whether positive or negative), and refocusing attention from strong emotions. DESR traits include impatience, low tolerance of frustration, quickness to anger, and excited responses to emotional reactions. To clarify the relation between the two conditions, investigators conducted a family aggregation study.
