Cognitive-based therapies have been shown to improve attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in adult patients (JW Psychiatry Apr 12 2010), but few studies have examined the impact of these interventions on comorbid psychiatric problems, which are common in these patients. Researchers randomized 54 adults with ADHD (mean age, 34; 63% women) to adjunctive, 15-session, group cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or to treatment as usual. All participants were already receiving treatment with at least one ADHD medication for at least one month, and all continued their medications. The study had partial industry support, and one researcher coauthored the CBT program.
