Life review therapy has shown efficacy for late-life depression in small studies. Researchers in the Netherlands have now examined this therapy (which integrated narrative therapy) in a large, randomized, controlled, multicenter study of 202 adults aged 55 or older who had moderate depressive symptoms, with or without current major depression (mean age, 63; 77% female). The therapy was delivered to small groups (4–6 participants) in eight 2-hour sessions and involved a structured review of the participant's life, with a focus on coping with past negative experiences and conflicts, retrieving positive memories, and finding positive meaning to life.
