It is clinically important to find response predictors to schizophrenia treatment so that failed trial-and-error approaches and serious metabolic effects of ineffective drugs can be minimized. Because data support a relationship between schizophrenia and the 3.1 isoform of the KCNH2 gene, which encodes for a brain potassium ion channel (JW Psychiatry Jul 13 2009), investigators studied the effect on treatment outcome of three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with the 3.1 isoform.
