In meta-analyses, psychotic-like symptoms, including delusion-like experiences, have been found in 5% of the population; these symptoms often co-occur with symptoms or family histories of anxiety, depression, alcohol dependence, and illicit substance dependence. The current research group examined such symptoms in 2861 mothers (average age, 46) who had participated in an Australian, prospective, birth-cohort study and 3079 of their adult offspring (49% male; average age, 20).
