Loneliness hurts both physical and psychological health, subjective well-being is associated with beneficial health outcomes, and these two subjective qualities are moderately associated with each other. Still, questions have been unresolved regarding how much each might affect the other. These investigators used data from the Chicago Health, Aging, and Social Relations Study, a 5-year population-based, longitudinal, epidemiological, observational study that enrolled 229 adults (age range, 50–65; year-5 cohort, 163).
