The association of physical exercise with better general health is well known, and exercise has increasingly been advocated as an adjunct in the treatment of psychiatric conditions. In this Australian, partially industry-supported study of physical activity and cognitive performance, 217 community-dwelling, cognitively healthy individuals over age 60 (mean age, 69.5; 54% female), researchers used actigraphy devices for 7 days to monitor the quantity and peak intensity of participants' physical activities. Participants removed the wrist-worn devices only for water activities, for showering, and in bed if the device interfered with sleep.
