To evaluate the effects of antiplatelet therapy in patients at high risk for occlusive vascular events, investigators conducted a meta-analysis of 287 studies that involved more than 200,000 such patients. In all studies, antiplatelet therapy was compared with control regimens, or different antiplatelet regimens were compared with each other.
Overall, compared with no treatment, antiplatelet therapy was associated with a one-quarter reduction in risk for any serious vascular event.
