An Icelandic company dedicated to finding disease-related genes performed a genome-wide association study of 306 cases and more than 15,000 control subjects from the population of Iceland. Cases were identified by questionnaires and objective testing. Using more than 300,000 genetic markers scattered throughout the genome, the team found a variant on chromosome 6.
