Medical errors of many types are more common at night and on weekends. To explore whether time of day and day of week correlate with cardiac arrest survival, investigators used a national registry of cardiopulmonary resuscitation data to assess time variations in in-hospital pulseless cardiac arrest. The database yielded information for about 58,000 arrests that occurred during day or evening hours (7 am–10:59 pm) and 28,000 arrests that occurred at night (11 pm–6:59 am).
