GAIT is the widely publicized randomized U.S. trial in which 1583 patients with knee osteoarthritis received glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, both glucosamine and chondroitin, celecoxib, or placebo. In the initial report from GAIT (published in 2006), glucosamine, chondroitin, or the combination was not significantly better than was placebo in relieving pain during 6 months of treatment (JW Feb 28 2006).
Now, the researchers present data on another outcome — radiographic progression — for 357 patients who completed 2 years of double-blind treatment.
