Incretin mimetics stimulate glucose-related insulin secretion, inhibit glucagon secretion, and suppress appetite in patients with type 2 diabetes. Exenatide (Byetta), the only such drug with FDA approval, requires twice-daily injections. Now, it has been compared with liraglutide (an investigational incretin-mimetic drug that can be injected once daily) in a trial funded by the manufacturer of liraglutide.
