Tai chi is a practice that combines gentle exercise, meditation, deep breathing, and relaxation techniques. To determine whether tai chi benefits patients with fibromyalgia, a group at Tufts University conducted a single-blind randomized trial: 66 fibromyalgia patients participated twice weekly for 12 weeks in either 1-hour tai chi sessions (with daily home exercises) or 1-hour educational sessions (focused on coping strategies, diet and nutrition, and exercise).
