Researchers have documented the presence of differential gene expression (e.g., genes involved in neutrophil activation, neutrophil apoptosis, NK activation) in peripheral blood samples from patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). In this study, industry-funded U.S. investigators attempted to validate a gene-based peripheral blood test (that includes evaluation of 23 genes) to detect the presence of obstructive CAD (defined as a stenosis ≥50% on quantitative coronary angiography).
