The earlier ovarian cancer is diagnosed, the better the prognosis — but no effective ovarian cancer screening method exists (JW Womens Health Jun 16 2011). Using data from 375 general practices, U.K. investigators derived and validated an algorithm for determining ovarian cancer risk in women (age range, 30–84) without ovarian cancer histories or suggestive symptoms (e.g., weight loss, abdominal pain or distention, postmenopausal bleeding) within the previous 12 months. More than 1.1 million women were included in the derivation cohort and 600,000 in the validation cohort.
