Angiotensin-converting–enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are not associated with elevated cancer risk. In contrast, cancer risk associated with angiotensin-receptor blocker (ARB) use is unclear: A 2010 meta-analysis of randomized trials revealed elevated risk (JW Cardiol Jun 13 2010), whereas a 2011 meta-analysis of a larger number of trials and individual patient data did not (J Hypertens 2011; 29:623). In this study, U.K. investigators used a large “real-world” database to assess the risk for cancer associated with ARB use.
