Care for patients with breast cancer increasingly is provided by multidisciplinary teams. In 1995, multidisciplinary team care for all patients with breast cancer was introduced in hospitals in greater Glasgow (intervention area) but not in the remainder of west Scotland (nonintervention area). This development afforded researchers the opportunity to study retrospectively whether care provided by these teams improved health outcomes in nearly 14,000 Scottish women with invasive breast cancer.
