Implementation of electronic health records has led to greater access to health records by patients. But how do patients and their physicians react when patients are provided with full access to doctors' notes? In this study, conducted across three sites (urban, rural, and urban safety-net medical center), 105 primary care physicians and 13,500 patients volunteered to participate in a 1-year program that gave patients access to their doctors' clinic notes.
