Significantly fewer people undergo colorectal cancer (CRC) screening (60%) than breast cancer (72%) or cervical cancer (83%) screening. Researchers investigated whether various interventions would improve rates of adherence for CRC screening. Almost 5000 adults (age range, 50–73) who were enrolled in a large healthcare delivery system in Washington State and who were overdue for CRC screening were randomized to one of four interventions of increasing intensity:
Usual care, in which participants received annual “birthday letters” with information on completed or needed preventive measures, including CRC screening
