More than one third of U.S. adults take multivitamin supplements regularly. However, data on the relation between multivitamin use and development and clinical course of prostate cancer are meager. Results of one study suggested no association with risk for developing prostate cancer (Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev 1999; 8:887), whereas two reports from a single study suggested that multivitamin use was associated with higher risk for fatal prostate cancer (Cancer Causes Control 2005; 16:643). These investigators sought to determine whether multivitamin use was differentially associated with organ-confined, versus more advanced, stages of prostate cancer.
