During the past decade, evidence supporting an association between use of statin drugs and lower incidence of some epithelial cancers has accrued. In light of the near-ubiquitous use of this class of agents, the association is intriguing although by no means definitive (given conflicting reports in the literature). Evidence supporting a link between statin use and prostate cancer incidence is similarly inconsistent. However, recent findings suggest that higher doses of and longer exposure to statins correlate with diminished risk for developing prostate cancer in general and more-advanced disease in particular.
