Managing patients with advanced kidney cancer remains a major therapeutic dilemma. However, during the past several years, important advances in the molecular characterization of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) have led to the development and approval of several new agents for treatment of patients with advanced renal cancer. The latest — pazopanib — is an oral angiogenesis inhibitor that targets vascular endothelial growth factor receptor, platelet-derived growth factor receptor, and the receptor tyrosine kinase c-Kit.
