Because therapy for mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) can be highly toxic and standard treatment is not yet established, the ability to adapt treatment according to risk for relapse is desirable. To assess the prognostic value of detecting minimal residual disease (MRD) following induction therapy, investigators used real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) — in particular, highly sensitive immunoglobulin gene PCR, and t(11;14) translocation PCR — to evaluate molecular remission as revealed in peripheral blood and bone marrow samples from patients with MCL.
