The majority of American men who receive androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) do so in the setting of nonmetastatic prostate cancer (PC). ADT use has been associated with numerous adverse effects on bone health and the metabolic syndrome. But, whether the effects of ADT lead to loss of physical function is unclear.
To examine this issue, investigators in Canada conducted a prospective cohort study of 259 men (mean age, 69) who were divided into three groups (matched by age, education, and walking status): 87 PC patients who received continuous ADT, 86 PC controls who did not receive ADT, and 86 healthy controls.
