Lenalidomide is an immunomodulating agent that was effective for treating patients with myelodysplasia in phase II studies (JW Oncol Hematol Jan 22 2008 and Blood 2006; 108:1158).
Now, the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group has conducted a new phase II study of lenalidomide in 42 patients with myelofibrosis who had anemia (hemoglobin level <10 g/dL) or were transfusion dependent. Patients received lenalidomide (10 mg daily on a 28-day/month cycle for up to 6 months) plus prednisone (30 mg daily for the first month and tapered doses for the next 2 months).
