A prior phase III trial comparing radiation alone with radiation plus concurrent cetuximab confirmed that cetuximab served as a radiation-sensitizing agent in patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (SCC; N Engl J Med 2006; 354:567). Since then, many studies have helped define the role of cetuximab in primary treatment for patients with locally advanced disease.
