In the U.S. Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening Trial, the initial findings that prostate cancer screening did not reduce overall mortality or prostate cancer mortality after 7 to 10 years of follow-up were confirmed by results after 13 years of follow-up (JW Oncol Hematol Feb 7 2012). In the European Randomized Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer (ERSPC), the initial findings showed that prostate cancer screening likewise did not reduce overall mortality after 9 years of follow-up, although it did reduce prostate cancer mortality (JW Gen Med Mar 18 2009).Will longer follow-up also confirm these results?
