Advanced adrenocortical carcinoma is extremely rare, occurring in 1 to 2 individuals per million each year, but it is highly aggressive and resistant to systemic therapy. Indeed, conventional chemotherapy agents have demonstrated limited utility in the small number of prospective trials devoted to this orphan disease.
