Successful treatment of hemophilia A (factor VIII deficiency) depends on the achievement of clotting-factor levels sufficient to prevent or stop bleeding. However, up to one third of hemophilia patients develop alloantibodies (inhibitors) that inactivate the infused therapeutic product. The reasons for inhibitor development are still unclear, but might be related to a particular characteristic of the factor VIII concentrate used for treatment.
