Targeted Cellular Immunotherapy Highly Active in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Modified autologous T-cells induced rapid complete remissions in patients with relapsed and refractory B-cell ALL.

Treatment of relapsed chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and indolent lymphoma with autologous T-cells modified ex vivo to target tumor cells has shown dramatic responses (JW Oncol Hematol Apr 3 2012). To test the clinical activity of chimeric antigen receptor T-cells (CART) redirected to target CD19-expressing B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), investigators assessed this therapy in five patients with relapsed or refractory B-cell ALL after cytoreductive therapy. Patients received CART infusions after conditioning cyclophosphamide chemotherapy.
