Children with ADHD typically have average or above-average intellectual ability. Most studies of ADHD exclude children with below-average intelligence. Investigators assessed the frequency of ADHD in children with borderline-to-mild intellectual disability (IQ range, 51–79 on a standardized intelligence test at age 6–18 years) in a cohort of children who were born in Rochester, Minnesota, from 1976 to 1982. Medical and education records were available on all 5718 children who remained in the community until school entry.
