Clinicians have become increasingly aware of the importance of pain control in newborns. Acetaminophen is used by some clinicians for circumcision analgesia, with the first dose given before the procedure and subsequent doses continued every 4 to 6 hours for 24 hours after the procedure. This case report documents acetaminophen-induced hepatic toxicity and encephalopathy in a circumcised 4-day-old term infant delivered vaginally without complications.
