Waiting until the onset of menstruation to initiate depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) injections might increase the risk for unintended pregnancy. In this randomized trial, investigators compared the effectiveness of immediate administration of DMPA (Depo Now) with the immediate use of short-term hormonal methods until later DMPA initiation (“bridge method”) in 333 sexually active young women (age range, 14–26; mostly Latina) who were interested in using DMPA.
