Infants born to mothers with connective tissue disease (CTD) and anti-SSA/Ro antibodies are known to be at risk for congenital complete heart block (CCHB), but what about their risk for other abnormalities? In a report from Italy, researchers compared electrocardiogram, hematologic, hepatic, and dermal abnormalities in 51 infants without CCHB born to 43 women with CTD and anti-SSA/Ro antibodies (study infants) and 50 infants born to 44 mothers with CTD who were negative for anti-SSA/Ro antibodies (control group). The infants were assessed by physical exam at birth and at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months.
