On December 13, 2007, Merck & Co., Inc., announced voluntary recall of about 1 million doses of Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine — including 10 lots of PedvaxHIB (Hib meningococcal conjugate vaccine) and two lots of Comvax (Hib meningococcal conjugate and hepatitis B) — after routine testing of manufacturing equipment revealed Bacillus cereus contamination. Distribution of affected doses began in April 2007. To date, no bacteria have been found in tested vials and no vaccine-related infections have been reported. The potency of the vaccine was not affected. The CDC provides a complete list of affected lots.
