Primary care pediatricians are challenged by guidelines that recommend discussing many preventive-health topics during well-child visits. To assess parents’ expectations about topics that will be discussed at these visits, investigators in Michigan surveyed 483 parents of children aged 6 months to 12 years before and after a well-child visit; 25% of parents had a child with special healthcare needs.
Parents were given a list of 5 illness topics (recent illness, chronic condition, medications, referral, and quality of life) and 12 preventive-health topics and were asked to indicate the topics that they expected to discuss with their pediatrician and to rate the importance of the topics.
