Acute otitis media (AOM) accounts for a large portion of acute care and emergency department (ED) visits. Parents seek urgent medical care to help control their child’s pain and to prevent possible complications of AOM. This retrospective analysis examined the effects of an intervention that educated parents about AOM and provided them with a prescription for analgesic otic drops at the 15-month well-child visit in primary care practices of Mayo Clinic.
