Previous research from the Rand Corporation showed that greater exposure to sexual content on television predicted earlier initiation of sexual intercourse in a nationally representative sample of 2003 adolescents (age range, 12–17 years). To examine whether baseline exposure to sexual content also predicts risk for pregnancy, the Rand Corporation followed the original study sample for an additional 2 years. This analysis reflects the 718 adolescents (57% male, 66% white, 12% Latino, and 17% black) who reported having sexual intercourse and had complete information on pregnancy at follow-up.
