Parental support is essential to the healthy development of all children and adolescents, but perhaps particularly so for lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) youth, who often lack support from other sources such as peers or the school community. Investigators evaluated whether perceived parental rejection during adolescence among LGB youth was associated with poor health outcomes during young adulthood.
A 51-item survey was administered to 224 LGB Latino and white young adults (mean age, 23; 49% female) who had come out between ages 13 and 19 years to at least one parent or primary caregiver.
