Television viewing has been linked with adverse behavioral, educational, and health outcomes in children. From preschool to high school, children use various screen-based media. Researchers at UCLA used data from the 2003–2004 National Survey of Children's Health to examine the association between parent-reported media use and physical and social-emotional health in 54,863 children (age range, 6–17 years).
On a typical school day, children spent an average of 1.59 hours watching television (TV), videos, and playing video games as well as 0.95 hours using computers for recreation.
