Internet addiction affects up to 18% of adolescents in both Western and Eastern societies. Although no universally accepted definition exists for this addiction, core symptoms include preoccupation, uncontrolled impulses, more use than intended, tolerance, withdrawal, impairment of control, excessive time and effort spent on the Internet, and impairment of decision-making ability.
