Night sweats have been associated with some serious medical conditions in adults, but little is known about night sweats in children. In a cross-sectional study of childhood obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in Hong Kong, investigators surveyed parents of 6381 primary school children (age range, 6–13 years) from 13 randomly selected schools about night sweats.
Nearly 12% of parents reported that their child had weekly night sweats during the past 12 months (7% reported ≥3 nights per week), and 64% reported no night sweats. Children with night sweats were significantly more likely than children without night sweats to have unspecified eye diseases, atopic dermatitis, respiratory disorders, hyperactivity, and frequent temper outbursts.
