Pediatric access to dental services is important for maintaining oral health, but Medicaid reimbursement for pediatric dental services varies among states. Investigators examined the association between Medicaid fees in 42 states in 2000 and 2008 and receipt of dental care within the past 6 months among 33,657 children (age range, 2–17 years) who were included in the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS).
Although average inflation-adjusted Medicaid payments did not change significantly between 2000 and 2008, fees decreased in 23 states, increased by <50% in 14 states, and increased by ≥50% in 5 states.
