Sexting is the transmission of sexual images by e-mail or electronic devices. This phenomenon, especially when it involves adolescents, has raised public concern, but little is known about the nature of sexting images and the extent of law enforcement involvement. The Crimes Against Children Research Center conducted two national surveys to gather more-detailed information about sexting.
The Third Youth Internet Safety Survey was conducted by telephone in 2010 in a national sample of 1560 youth Internet users (age range, 10–17 years; 50% female) and their parents.
