Both parent and teacher behavioral observations are recommended to assure accurate assessment and management of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, obtaining timely teacher reports is challenging in clinical practice. Researchers examined the level of agreement between parent and teacher observations of ADHD behaviors in 270 children (mean age, 8 years) referred from 24 community-based pediatric practices in Chicago who met standard diagnostic criteria for ADHD. Parent and teacher reports on the ADHD Rating Scale IV were recorded before initiation of medication and 4 and 12 months later.
