Among the many strategies to decrease and control HIV infection, preventing new cases is one of the most critical. The CDC reviewed data from the biennial National Youth Risk Behavior Survey from 1991 to 2011to assess trends in HIV-related risk-taking behaviors of students in grades 9 through 12 across the U.S. Students responded to self-administered, anonymous questionnaires about their sexual experience and injection drug use. Sample sizes ranged from 10,904 to 16,410.
Among Hispanic students, no significant changes were noted in prevalence of lifetime sexual experience or four or more partners. Among whites and blacks, prevalence decreased significantly from 54.1% to 47.4% for any experience and from 18.7% to 15.3% for four or more partne…
