Children are uniquely vulnerable to acute and chronic exposures to pesticides because of normal behavioral development (exploration of their environment and hand-to-mouth activity) and physiologic factors. The AAP policy statement on pesticide exposure reviews the diagnosis and management of acute pesticide poisoning, the effects of chronic low-level exposure on child health, and poisoning prevention, and provides recommendations for pediatricians and government.
