Few clinical trial data address contraception or treatment of vasomotor symptoms in perimenopausal women. This six-month Italian trial examined the effects of low-dose transdermal estrogen combined with oral progestagen on vasomotor symptoms and ovulation in 38 women aged 43 to 49.
The women reported hot flushes and night sweats despite documented ovulatory menstrual cycles.
